Implant Dentures

Description

Dr. Bixby works closely with local oral surgeons and dental labs to offer his patients implant-supported dentures. Attaching a denture to dental implants ensures that it stays in place, allowing you to chew and speak normally. Implant-supported dentures can last for many years with proper care.

Implant-supported dentures are dentures where the implant is helping keep the denture immobile. It's helping hold it into the mouth. One of the major benefits is that a typical denture moves around a lot, even if they don't even realize it. And having it, basically, supported by those implants it becomes more a part of you, especially, the lower teeth where you can't actually get a very good suction onto the bone because of the way the anatomy is. And if you have, you know, four to five implants helping hold that it becomes a way of making a really great restoration. You know, and you can really chew much better than you would ever be able to with just a regular denture with no support. Process of getting an implant-supported denture is after the initial setup we meet with the oral surgeon and dental lab. And we would take any teeth remaining out and place the implants in. On that same day, we convert a denture to be able to attach it to the implants. And with the help of the lab, we're able to, on that very day, have a screwed-in piece that goes right into the implants. And you're able to use it when you're done with that day. The health benefits of an implant-supported denture is that your ability to chew is significantly better with an implant-supported one over a standard denture. With a standard denture, things move around a lot more. And you're really not able to get the chewing forces that ideally you should have. With an implant-supported one, you would absolutely be able to chew significantly more. It's as if you have your teeth back. Implant-supported dentures are long-lasting restorations. The implants are meant to last forever. And the denture on top of it is as long as you're keeping good care of it, it should last many years for you.
