Is Restorative Dentistry Painful?
Not at all. We use local anesthetic to keep you as comfortable as possible. But if you're very nervous about dental treatments, Dr. Bixby offers safe, calming nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation to keep you relaxed and pain free during procedures.
Combining Neuromuscular and Restorative Dentistry: A Unique Approach
One of the cornerstones of Dr. Bixby’s dental practice is his devotion to neuromuscular dentistry. Rather than focus solely on the teeth, this school of dentistry takes all of the structures of the mouth into account, including hard and soft tissues and muscles, so that they can function together as one unit. This idea is particularly relevant to Red Bank patients who are receiving restorative dentistry treatment. Dr. Bixby will evaluate the mouth as a whole in order to create a treatment plan that will best restore function and aesthetics to the mouth. In doing so, he ensures that results are comfortable and long-lasting, and promotes the overall health of the mouth. Neuromuscular dentistry is an important, underlying principle in many restorative dentistry procedures.
Our Restorative Dentistry Treatments
Dental Bridges
Dental bridges are a tooth replacement option that can be used if a patient has lost one or several teeth. A bridge consists of a durable synthetic tooth that is held in place by dental crowns that slip over the teeth on either side of the gap left by the missing tooth. While previous dental bridges were fairly conspicuous, Dr. Bixby believes in metal-free dentistry and uses natural-looking ceramic materials for all bridges.
Dental Implants
Often considered the most comprehensive solution to missing teeth, dental implants are tiny titanium posts implanted in the jaw to serve as replacements for the natural tooth roots. After a dental implant has been surgically placed by a trusted local oral surgeon, Dr. Bixby can place a custom porcelain restoration on top of the implant to create an aesthetically-pleasing look. Dental implants are long-lasting and can be used to replace a single tooth or an entire set of teeth.
Dental Crowns
Dental crowns can best be described as tooth-colored caps that are placed over the teeth to protect them from damage or further decay. They are typically used when a cavity is too large for a traditional composite filling to repair. Dr. Bixby utilizes only porcelain materials for all of the crowns placed at his dental practice, providing durable, customizable, and long-lasting results.
Dentures
Patients who have lost a significant number of teeth often rely on dentures to reinstate their oral health and transform their smiles. These artificial teeth and gums are designed to replace a full arch of teeth, allowing you to eat, speak, laugh, and enjoy life. Dr. Bixby offers two denture types: traditional and implant-supported, which provide unparalleled stability. He can help you choose the option that best meets your unique requirements and provides long-lasting satisfaction regarding the look and feel of your mouth.
Full Mouth Reconstruction
Full mouth reconstruction is similar to smile makeover treatment, but is restorative in nature, rather than purely cosmetic. Patients who undergo full mouth reconstruction may require general dentistry services such as TMJ treatment or periodontal care prior to receiving cosmetic enhancement such as tooth whitening. While Dr. Bixby appreciates the value of a beautiful smile, he understands that health must come before aesthetics.
