Red Bank DayWhite® Teeth WhiteningDiscoloration is easily one of the most common problems in cosmetic dentistry. The accumulation of stains can greatly reduce the shade of teeth over the years, in turn impacting someone’s smile and overall appearance. Fortunately, most stains can be removed or at least reduced through a professional teeth whitening procedure. Furthermore, our Red Bank office provides patients with both in-office and at-home options, allowing them to choose a method of treatment that is convenient and comfortable. Those who prefer to whiten at home can benefit from a DayWhite® kit from Zoom!®. With DayWhite®, the traditional advantages of a professional whitening session can be achieved on your own.

What Is DayWhite?®

DayWhite® is a teeth whitening kit that contains the same materials as an in-office professional whitening session, but is meant to be used by the patient in her or her own home. Like other whitening products by Zoom!®, it comprises hydrogen peroxide (HP) as the bleaching agent and amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) to protect and desensitize teeth. Although the concentration of these ingredients is lowered for out-of-office use, the treatment process is slightly different to facilitate usability and produce comparable results. By the end of DayWhite® treatment, patients should see a significant improvement in the color of their teeth that has the potential to last for years.

How Does DayWhite® Work?

First, you must visit your dentist to receive the whitening kit and the customized trays that will be used with it. Whitening gel is available with a concentration of 9.5 percent HP or 14 percent HP. The more hydrogen peroxide present, the more effective the gel is. However, the higher concentration may also result in greater sensitivity after treatment. Similarly, patients can receive smaller kits for touch-ups or trial runs, or larger kits for a full round of treatment. Speak with your dentist beforehand to learn which option will best meet your needs.

When you are ready to begin treatment, simply fill the upper and lower trays with the whitening gel and fit them over your teeth. After 30 minutes, remove the trays and rinse both them and your mouth. Repeat these steps twice daily, for as many days as the treatment requires. Typically, a full treatment cycle lasts between one and two weeks.

DayWhite® Benefits

Although at-home whitening requires more sessions over multiple days, this gradual approach offers various advantages as well to the right candidates. Common benefits of DayWhite® include:

  • Reduced sensitivity: In-office whitening gel contains a high concentration of HP and is absorbed into the enamel at an accelerated rate. Although this provides instant results, it can leave some patients with particularly sensitive teeth. If the gel comes in contact with gums, it is also likely to leave temporary discoloration and irritation. By spreading the treatment out and using a lower dose of HP per session, patients with sensitive teeth and gums can benefit from milder side effects.
  • Control over your treatment timeline: Not everyone has the time or desire to remain in the dentist’s chair for a full whitening session. By taking the treatment home with you, you can whiten your teeth on a schedule that is more appropriate for you, in the comfort of your couch, bed, or virtually anywhere.
  • Different levels of treatment: If you are not sure whether teeth whitening is right for you, you can try out one of the smaller kits first. Patients who are pleased with their initial results can continue with a larger kit. On average, those who complete standard DayWhite®treatment see their smile brightened by up to eight shades.
